Color Matters: Helpful Tips for Specifying Color in Print

When it’s time to create new marketing materials like brochures, catalogs, booklets or flyers, it can be a little overwhelming. After all, it’s your brand being represented on paper. It’s important to get every detail and color just right. Then comes the decision if you want to print in full color due to budgetary needs. That’s where we come in to offer our expertise! We’ve put together some easy and helpful tips for why color matters in print and ways to make the most out of your color choices.

Choose Spot Colors When…

For spot colors you only need one or two for the printed piece. These are for items when there are no full colored photos in your project, think letterhead or envelopes. You will want to include your branded colors and need them to be produced to exact specifications. With the use of Pantone color guide, we are able to print any color in a spot color format.

Choose Full Color Process When…

Full color process is needed when you want to have more than two colors as well as including full-color photos. This is ideal for brochures or pamphlets to highlight your business and services.

Choose Both Spot and Process Colors When…

To enhance the colors you will want to use both spot and process colors by including a “bump” plate, which consists of an additional color used to supplement the original CMYK plates and increase the density range. Your project also includes full-color photos, however, your logo or brand colors do not reproduce well with process color inks. Additionally, your full-color photos within the project require metallic, fluorescent, or other special inks.
